Just got back from visiting family in southern France for a few days. Took time to forage in the local oak forests while there & in addition to collecting some nice Ceps & B Aereus (Dark Ceps) I also found a few Amanita Caesarea (Caesars's Mushroom), & very nice they were too - very distinctive aroma like no other mushroom I've smelled. Pity they don't grow in the UK.

Pretty and I'm sure it is delicious but I'm just not sure I could get over the hurdle of it being an amanita.

Yes, I know what you mean! I had to check Phillips very carefully before I ate them - & then only a nibble before waiting a day for ill effects! First Amanita I've tried to be honest - very distinctive & difficult to mistake for anything dangerous fortunately.

This is one fungi I've never tried but would absolutely love too. How's the flavour?

Very nice. Eat them raw sliced up with some small dark ceps I found at the same time, with just a little good olive oil & salt. Very tasty.

Very nice. One of the best mushroom I have ever tasted.
I eat them raw (sliced) with salt, pepper and lemon juice.

I must remember to try these next time I'm in their territory. The retail price for fresh ones is amazingly high. Quite envious of your find
