I'm trying to put together an informal beekeeping group down here in Cornwall through the natural beekeeping forum.
If anyone here is interested let me know.
I'm finding a lot of beginers are interested in TBHs but put off by not having any local mentors or advice so (although I'm new to TBHs myself) I'm taking the bull by the horns & trying to start a group.

Great idea and best of luck with it.

I wish we had something like that up here, just for some moral support really.

I'd be interested if you weren't quite so far down into Cornwall! If you held it at Kilkampton I'd come.

Contact Phil Chandler.
Sure he is doing similar or will know someone who is in Devon.

Just to bump this up & to say we now have a group discussion board at Cornwall Natural Beekeepers.
It's open to all regardless of experience so if you are in the area & have an interest in keeping bees in a more natural way, join in & introduce yourselves.

the person who runs the group now is petrified people will want to take it up as "WHO WILL TEACH IT?? they might all want tot change and what will I do then????" I shall encourage people to look on this forum ....

I managed to speak to one person...who does have good standing in the general community and sees the sense.I told her about the barefoot beekeeper...Ive planted an acorn.
The meeting was supposed to be for keepers who wanted to gather to get candy for thier bees...We had forty people here, half last years new lot and then new comers as well...so the association came prepared with talks and an itinery that left NO room for discussion.....she knows I am up to something as we are Going To Have Coffee On Thursday

I shall tell of my learnings....and ambitions. Problem is having had all my lymph glands removed and therefore a low immune system I am not sure about that effects on me if I get stung...it would be nice to share a hive and therefore only go to the bees when I am Well...I need an ally....hmmmm who shall that be ...time will tell..and me going to the gp to ask for an epi pen...but I became very allergic to gps a long time ago.....

I think there is some positive movement on the home front...the bee lady has had a look at the barefoot website she says she can see the sense in it for me... she is going to talk with the local bee inspector to see what he thinks about being able to do his job..

wow

Excellent.
With regards to horizontal top bar hives & bee inspectors it makes no difference.
Warres are more awkward because the bees fix the comb, so harder to inspect.
I know you where thinking of keeping bees in Warres (as it's a leave alone method), but IMHO you would be better with a horizontal hive.
Zero heavy lifting & less disturbance to the bees when you do open them.

I did say that I had had a think about top bars..she gave me such a look as if to say"are you being awkward on Purpose"...but I do think you are right...next seed to be sown...but the big celibration is she is exploring away from her comfort zone....and I could be a bee keeper one day...
