I need to make a pair of 15th century hose.
I've got "The Medieval Tailor's Assistant" and I suppose I could sort out a Toile and have a couple of goes with cambric to get the hose right, but I don't have gallons of cambric or loads of time. Need to have them finished by the start of July, and I really need to spend most of my time between now & then making things to sell, not making costume to wear. (And I'm not a natural tailor - I'm much more a knitter / spinner).

So, does anyone have a pattern I can borrow - or a pair of hose I could draw round pretty please.

I'd be tempted to do them entirely by draping on the intended victim, every time I try to make them from a pattern or by tracing round an old unpicked pair they end up completely the wrong size.

Drape the rough shape, marking with chalk, cut with a really large seam allowance and refit two or three times until you get the right closeness. Remember to cut on the bias and fit closely round the bum (assuming we are talking mens joined hose)or it will all rip on the first wearing.

If you have Tudor Tailor as well there is a very good photo sequence of joined hose being fitted on the body.

If you mean hose to wear as socks, I'd go for a parcel tape and binbag pattern just as you would for turnshoes to start with

Yes, joined hose as you guessed - we are going to be peddlars and have been asked to wear authentic kit and hose are the last piece of the picture.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'd better just hunt out the pins and get sewing.
I've just got hold of some fabric, hopefully there's enough - there's about 2 yards and we are talking quite short legs.

We will be, or rather, Gareth will be, with the tent full of shiny things, I've been booked by a museum that weekend so can't get to the show itself, but all my stuff will be there.

Yes we will be there as well - always been site staff before, but this time we are branching out.

Currently busy making stuff (hence the reason that I don't want to spend ages faffing around with hose at the moment)

Just had a go at making the hose - the piece of fabric I had in mind is too small so it looks as if hose are off the menu for now. (Severn Trent are threatening a hose ban anyway! - I'll get my coat)
I'm going back to making stuff to sell instead.
