Has anyone here used lawn mowings by digging them into veg beds? if its a thin layer and as they're well mixed with the first sprinkling of chopped autumn leaves I'm hoping it'll all be broken down quite quickly into the soil by the time spring comes... I have too many for the compost bins and am reluctant to send them off in the green bin - seems like a waste of fertility...
your thoughts?

I use mine as a thick mulch, does not seem to cause any probs and soil levels are up about 4 inches from when I started. I layer the last couple of cuts at the back end of the season when I clear the beds and cover with black weed suppressant fabric to encourage warmth and rotting. I also mix in a couple of cuts during the summer to bulk up the clay soil, it does seem to lighten it.

Same as 12Bore. They rot down very quickly and, as you say, it is a waste not to use them.

When the local commune cut the grass in my hamlet I get the grass cuttings which go straight on the veg plot. As a weed suppressant and mulch it's perfect and it sure to richen the soil too. A win win deal.

That's why I use the suppressant fabric in winter.
