Strip away the affected leaves and feed them seaweed. Just what everyone else has said, but it does no harm to repeat it.

Use a metal T-square to score against, it won't move.
Also, try tipping the glass on a support of some kind - like a drawing board - so that you don't have to lean over.

What has happened to ladybirds this year? Have they been put off by the late spring? I have been picking aphids off rosebuds by hand for a week now.
Anyone know?
