I had the same problem look under the chicken house you will find shells and false eggs i thougt i had a hen eating eggs so i blew some eggs and put mustard in seemed to do the trick rats dont do must ...

Cornish garden nurseries have good trees as there all bought from frank mathew and Adams apples like alot of these garden centers your paying a good 2.35 mark up
