You are probably in a smokeless zone too so may not be able to burn wood anyway ( although as I can't afford a wood burner I haven't actually checked so quite prepared to admit I am wrong).

There is more than one type of Kilner jar though. I use the ones with the metal discs and screw tops as well as the ones pictured here.

For pans with anything stuck on them I usually find boiling up water and washing soda in it usually does the trick. I help it along by scraping the bottom with a wooden spoon as it boils.
