Has there been a recent increase in spam postings, or am I just seeing them now, and hadn't been previously? Anyway in which general forum users can help deal with them?

going by the number of "guests" and their extremely broad interests it seems we are getting an above average level of attention at the mo.

It's some sort of Ukrainian bot network I think. I'll see if jema can tighten up the security for a bit.

I have put a block on some of the dodgy domains they are using, but this looks like a human botnet. I doubt the capchta is cracked.

the fracking thread has got far more views than might be expected, the usual view to post rate rarely exceeds about ten to one for a multi post thread, low post threads can get up to 100 which swings the stats but seems like regulars having a look at what folk think or do.

which begs the questions

it does not come up in the top 100 hits of several search engines so why has that one gone viral?
the ice age one has a fairly typical ratio but would it change ratio if the title was "climate change outrage" or suchlike?

does the word fracking in a thread title get regular update views by professional scrutiny from state or fracker intel?

or just many curious guests who have sought it out from thousands of search hits?
or a low level dsa at some point on the fracking thread ?

Possibly it is linked on social media somewhere, so not spotted by the search engines.

Speak of the devil. I've just logged on to find a spam post on chat from kenash123. Why not let people join as per usual but not activate any account until a moderator has had a look at them first?
