Does anyone know if the gun safes advertised in the shooting press are all the same? They all seem to guarantee police acceptance, although I'd not get one until I discussed it with my local police's firearms dept. Any things I should look out for? Separate ammo compartment etc?

It depends on which type of gun you want to put in it ammo compartments are great for rifle ammunition but a bit small when it comes to shotgun cartridges just make sure it is made from 3mm steel and has two locks

The legal bits and pieces will be drilled into me by our gun club and local police (fixing place, instructions, lock types etc). I was just wondering if all the makes of safes are similar. Best not to post any specific details though. I have often wondered about the keys, no doubt I'll find out. I will end up keeping rilfes and shotguns in it.

Yes all of the makes are simmilar they all assure police acceptance and i am confident they wold all get it there would be no point in producing a cabinet that wouldnt meet the standards the police require

No, actually they are not. Rifle safes are deeper than shotgun safes (because of the scope). I would recommend one with an internal, lockable ammo box (not for ammo as they are generally too small), but to store the rifle bolts as they have to be kept seperate from the weapons. Mine have single locks, but have two one inch stainless bolts through each end and side of the door (like a safe).

I disagree. It goes against the spirit of the law to have a lockable ammo box within the gunsafe. Any berk breaking in will have the box free in seconds with a jemmy, and then he gets away with guns, plus either bolts or ammo. They should be in different rooms.
