We visited Orkney last week, first time and fell in love.

We had made arrangements to view some properties on the North Isles (Westray and Sanday).

It's Sanday for us, solicitors instructed, mortgage arranged.

Mixture of emotions, happy, sad, excited, nervous but I'm sure it will all be worth it.

Beautiful 2 bed bungalow just on the bay of the little sea, so beautiful, outbuildings and land what more could we wish for.

Just had to share, after 6 years of saving looking at property, making offers, attending auctions it's finally happening

Oh pictures or link would be lovely. Where are you now, will this be a huge change? I'd love to float off to an island.

It will be a huge change, but for hubbie to start. He's going up there to set everything up whilst I stay in the Midlands carrying on working and letting the boys finish their college education (so 2 years apart).

It will be strange moving to an island but we've been working to being more self sufficient over the last few years and this is an ideal location.

It's always great to hear that someone has found their dream home

Being on an island, are you going to retire, or do you have a vocation?

Glad to hear your wishes are coming true.

Cool, you'll be my neighbour too. Our place is on the Bay of Lopness and used to be an old tractor shed! It includes outbuildings (tatty stables) and over 6 acres. Bought it in August but had to have someone give it a thorough clean before we could move up (previous owner had a pet crow and kept a goat in there at one point). Hope to finally get all of our stuff up by the end of November. It's such a gorgeous island I can't wait to finally get there. Good luck with all of your planning, the Scottish housebuying system is very different than in England and Wales but it generally makes sense. Will your place need doing up at all or is it ready to move in to?

Sounds wonderful as long as you can cope with the separation. Very best of luck!

I know where you are now, we sat there last week and had our picnic (in the sleet and hail). Yes we will be neighbours we're just down the road East Silverhall overlooking the Peedie Sea.

We're up 2nd week in January to move hubby, the house is ready for us to move into although we've still got plenty to work on. Can't wait.

Where are you located, are you on Sanday or the mainland?

Alice

That's wonderful, we can all have a get together, time for tea and cake?

It's great to know that I already know some of my neighbours before I get there.
