Nothing routinely, there seems to be special arrangements for pigs moving from breeder to grower to finisher units, and some for cows moving with calves for welfare reasons, carcasses for collection, all animals direct to slaughter & stray animals from roads- not quite sure what the last one is all about- who in their right mind would leave their stray animals out on the road just because the Government say we can't move livestock?

I was wondering about this - are farmers allowed to move their stock from one field to another?? I'm pretty sure I've seen stock in fields that they werent in last week - even though they've probably been walked along the road to get there...

You can move within a holding (<3km) provided you don't go past/across any other holding and if you cross a public road it has to be cleaned & disinfected afterwards.

As i undrestand it, the 3km move is still only allowable for welfare purposes, although i think this includes things like of the sheep have run out out of grass, or moving newly weaned lambs ( have been doing this today). You can move more that 3km but only for acute welfare purposes, and this is subject to veterinary inspection and the aproval of the local animal health office.

There is a timeline for resumption of normal movments on the DEFRA website (given that there are no more cases). In a nutshell, normal within holding movements by the end of the coming week, farm to farm moves by 8th September. No date given for the resumption of markets, shows, other gatherings etc.

Yes, for welfare reasons, as in my first post, that must apply to ewes & lambs too.

Some of the restrictions are ridiculous but best to grin & bear it until it's lifted and hope it doesn't lose you too much money in the process. It'll certainly have messed up a few breeding programmes around the country.

If you dont live in England then you need to check with your own agric department website. i.e. SEERAD for Scotland, welsh office(?) for wales and whatever in N. Ireland. Defra is not the be all and end all for all the UK despite what one reads in the press.

There are real differences in what can move depending where you live.

You should have seen the queue down the road for the abattoir yesterday- all these stupid rules & checks meant that rather than our animals being in the trailer for the ten minute journey, they were actually in there for an hour- the piddle from numerous animals gently seeping out no doubt for hundreds of cars to drive over. I can't help thinking that many of the 'checks' are just lip service to the press

From midnight you can move within your own holding up to 3km for any purpose - exceptions to this are if you have common or shared grazing.

Also designated slaughter markets can begin from tomorrow.

PROGRESS!!

It applies to all land managed under a single holding number - or what would have been on the old single occupancy licenses.
