I want to sell my quail eggs through a local farm shop but haven't got a clue about selling through someone else - I normally have my own stall. I know how much they retail at locally so am basing my price to give the shop a 40-50% markup. Would that be about right? I presume it would be on a trial basis and not sale or return? Sorry to be so clueless - I wish I'd never even thought about the idea - selling your own stuff is a lot easier! Thanks in advance for any advice.

I'd go for a 25-30% mark-up and see if they object

Selling quails eggs is remarkably free from restrictions - I've had discussions with Trading Standards and DEFRA and all you really need are labels with contact details and a Best Before Date. Duck and goose eggs are covered by the same regulations as hens eggs. This is what made me think of selling quail eggs in the first place.......

Well, the farm shop have taken a few packs so we'll see how they go. Could be the start of a multinational empire....or something!

You might want to check that out again as duck turkey goose & quail all fall outside the egg selling regulations (but all food is covered by the hygine regs & trading standard regs). Only hens eggs are covered.

Egg marketing regs only apply to hens eggs. The Hatching Eggs and chicks regs apply to hens, ducks, geese and guinea fowl. Quail eggs are of course covered by hygiene regs and trading standards but don't include the grading stamping etc that hen egg producers have to go through. I was told that I need only label with address and best before date and obviously comply with welfare standards.
