Careful how you read things before wanting to part with 100. I said I read it in an article written by someone who hunts with ferrets, not that the person who wrote the article practices it.
This does ring a bell; I haven't seen it as an article, but I think that many, many years ago I heard tell of this happening. A girl at school who used to keep ferrets mentioned it as something her dad had told her about, but at the time I didn't believe it. I find it as hard to believe now. I'd be curious to see the article if you can find it, because it seems an almost incredible claim. Despite being curious, I'm certainly not curious to the tune of a hundred quid
I think it's fair to say that if this does happen, it's vanishingly rare, and it's something that every one of us would find abhorrent. Do you guys (Darren and Judy) agree?
You'll have to keep us posted, piccies and stuff...
I must either buy a digital camera or a scanner. I'm considering one of those combined scanner-printer things to replace our ailing old lexmark printer, which would make putting more pictures online far easier.

Well I've done a quick google and come up with a link to:
To quote: "There is no place today for the horrendous practice of sewing up a ferret's lips before work (known as coping) or the use of metal muzzles."
It does seem as if this may have been an ancient practice. I have no idea if it was ever done or if it is currently done anywhere in the world, but I know everyone here agrees that there is no place for this practice.
In a different thread I'd be interested to hear from any ferreters out there. I've seen them at shows and read about them but would be interested to know a little more.

Darren, Judy is only reporting what she read and asking if it could be true.

Believe me she cannot show us the said article ever because it is her opinion , all I keep asking is for her to prove me wrong, but we all know she cant, come on girl which mag and when?
dont edit me mods ask the same qu? when and where?
yes I am a fieldssport fanatic and people like Judy with her opinions really upset me, at least I can allways back up my statements all I am asking is for her to do the same
Getting back on topic, I want to know, can people still be indulging in this barbaric practice of "coping"? Judy if this is the case then I'm sure people will want to know about it, hope you can find the article and enlighten us, we need to know about this stuff.
You've laid down your challenge Darren. If nothing is forthcoming, lets move on.

right then John has sent me a pm and for a change has made me see the light, Judy no matter what you say you are an anti, fair enough that is your choice, all I ask is in future if you make a statement , just make sure you can back it up.
ciao
I searched for ferret coping with only the ntl site coming back with the practice So I phoned my father who laughed down the phone at me. Having not touched a ferret for at least 15 years I questioned the laugher. My father says it's bad enough trying to get a ferret that doesn't want to go in it's cage. If you went near one with a needle and thread you'd need it yourself as the ferret is likely to put it's teeth through your thumb.
As for metal muzzles my uncle has some for walking the ferrets I'm told they go to the postbox and back, I didn't even know they could write
