Thanks for the welcome. I am a professional dry stone dyker and work a lot with lime mortar as well. If anybody needs advice about stonework I am willing to share experience or the odd daft story even I dont know much about emoticons or adding bells and whistles to my posts but maybe I can learn

Hi there, and welcome to Downsizer . Good to have another from Scotland, there's quite a few of us here. Lime mortar ? Gervase will be along soon, no doubt (he's rather keen on it). And it's something I need to learn to work with, as well as lime plaster.

Thanks for all the welcomes On a job near Drymen I had laid out the cope stones from an old wall along a footpath away from where I was working to keep them separate from the building stones. A rather posh couple came wandering along and asked: 'I suppose you cant use those stones over there because they're all dirty and covered in moss?'......
