We intended to build 2 traditional detatched log cabins, next spring - (hopefully planning will be in this next month)and open to the public on the 1st october next year, we are going to offer traditional rural activity holidays over a weeks stay, each weeks activities depending on your own preference. We will be offering things such as this -
We reckon the ultimate downsizers holiday destination - what do you think?
peat cutting - when in season
corncrake walks - when in season
Be a better otter spotter - in season
spinning - when in season
a day at the outdoor centre - all year round (sea kayaking, orienteering, hill walking etc)
collect your tea off the shore - when in season - cockles, mussels, razor fish etc
rabbit stalking with an air rifle - when in season, learn how to dress rabbit.
learn how to fly tie and go fly fishing when in season.
sea fishing(to be confirmed)
sea trout and salmon fishing ( by arrangement with the estate)
deer stalking (by arrangement with the estate)
See Eriskay ponies and their foals on their native soil on a walk and talk with Eoghann (seasonal)
Working with ferrets - one evening - learn how to dispatch and dress a rabbit.
Evening with the lurchers - learn how to run a rabbiting dog, how to dispatch and dress a rabbit.
Hedgehot hunt - may - june , earn your self cash for the local charities and save hedgehogs by handing them over to tiggywinkles rather than see the dreaded snh kill them.
horse riding on the beaches - seasonal
in fact whatever you want - loads of traditional things going on throughout the year - your ultimate downsizer experience - and you 'll love it, whatever you fancy - even a night out at the best 'local restaurant, pub or dance - depending on your palette and choice - of course!!
we might spend an evening chatting about the scottish wildcats when we feed them(if you are interested) - you can even bring your dogs with you so long as they are well behaved, broken to stock, brough to take part or be trained and will live in the kennels- when not out.
Sadly for the first year we cant have any children under 16 in your party - unless by prior arrangement.
Our cabins sleep up to 6.
what I am looking for now is for someone to help me design, name and build me a site offering all these things and more in the ultimate hebridean downsizers experience.....can you help , or what do you think? sensible and serious replies encouraged............ |

I was looking for help to get a site launched, i just hate building sites, dont mind the upkeep and alterations . Put this topic where you think it should go, but what I was hoping for was feedback? As you know we mainly work with the dogs and dont personally go much into the activites up here, but many people would we reckon, so we though we'd ask on here, seems like the ideal place. |
The key question is, are you prepared to may $12 or so a month, maybe a bit less for hosting?
If you are, you can use something like what we have here, which is quite easy to maintain with no coding. You just need someone to set it up with logos and stuff and then it is menu driven.
Otherwise with less expensive hosting you are talking about a manually maintained static site, which does requite more knowledge.

Is this one of those sites you can alter online? a bit like a forum (the one over at edrd, cos I found getting around that quite easy, its like you say its setting up a site initially then adding to it , its the initial buying the domain name and setting up the site......then linking.
We thought we would publish the local monthly calendar as to 'activities' held on the islands - for anyone thinking of staying on the uists - also offer alternative accomodation, ie B&B, guest houses, specialists - ie sporting hotels/wildlife hotels(photograhic red deer stalking), crofts, fishing experts, campsites or bunkhouses. What do you reckon?
Have i missed anything off the list on the first post people are interested in that might only be done up here?
As you know we specialise in traditional activities, involving, lurchers, teriers and ferrets, although wildfowling and stalking can be arranged.
also I breed plummer terriers, plummer lurchers and ferrets - all created by brian plummer - author of many books featuring extremists, of which he was one himself, with his obsession for his search for the ultimate ratting terrier - and the pot filling lurcher and ferret. So obviously our new site will be linked to plummerterrier.com.
Anything I've missed out? |
