Ingredients
6 oz plain wholemeal/wheat/brown flour (the strong stuff for breadmaking is OK too)
2oz oatmeal (fine or medium, but not coarse or pinhead)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
3oz margarine - you can use the hard block stuff for a crisper biscuit, but the usual spready marge also works
1oz soft brown sugar (dark or light)
3-4 tablespoons of milk
Recipe
Pre-heat normal oven to 190C / 375F / Gas 5. Fan oven 170C
Mix flour, oatmeal, salt and baking powder together in a bowl
Rub in the margarine till mix is like breadcrumbs
Stir in the sugar
Add the milk bit by bit, and mix to a firm dough
Turn onto floured surface and roll out thinly
Cut out using 3" cutter or similar
Place on heavy greased baking tray
Prick all over with a fork
Bake in oven for 12 - 15 mins till just browning (10-12 mins fan oven)
Remove from baking tray with a fish slice and leave to cool on wire rack
Comments
The biscuits rise a wee bit, but not much, so roll dough out to the thickness you want the biscuits.
