A work colleague wants a ferret. He seems to have been offered one for ï¿½5, which he reckons sounds a bit cheap. Anyone know what the going price for a ferret is? (I can't really believe that I'm typing this, but, hey ho ), Peter.

Pete A fiver is about the going rate. I've seen them even cheaper than that this year.

Try to get one from a rescue centre first though.

Ferrets are always born in the summer at virtually the same time, so there's always a glut of unwanted young ferrets. Try and buy one in the late Autumn or the Winter when the rabbitting season is in full swing and the price will have gone up. A good ferret is almost worth its weight in gold .

Why does one want to keep a ferret? I presume that the answer is "rabbitting"? Can anyone tell me how that works?

My son just loves ferrets - He desperately wants some and intends to call it Cheese!!! (don't ask its a long and very random story) but until we get a small holding he aint getting any of the smelly little creatures

We have 35 sheep, 4 (rescue) cats and a very smelly dog. Enough animals already.

Gervase is quite hairy and smelly enough without a ferret in tow thank you...

Hmmmm. We have a small Jack Russell and an even smaller hunting cat for that sort of thing thank you.

And in any case, if either of them fail I get out one of our guns and do it myself...
